The post office in Muscat was opened on the 1stof May 1864 at a monthly cost of 48 Rupees. The duties of the postmaster were carried on, subject to the control of the Assistant Political Agent, by an officer of the Indian Medical Subordinate Department, who was then in medical charge of the Muscat Political Agency and the post office was held in a rented building in the town.
